Device Connection Methods
Device to HW4 PC:

► Ethernet (TCP/IP) wired: this is the recommended
method because of its reliability and flexibility

Ethernet (TCP/IP) wireless: installation can be difficult
due to wireless security requirements. May not be
reliable enough for critical data (loss of communication
     issues)

USB port: easy to establish but not reliable enough for
critical data. Usually not suitable when data has to be
     accessed by multiple users

Serial port (RS-232): reliable but outdated. Usually not
suitable when data has to be accessed by multiple users

Device to device:

► Any device can be connected to another device by
     RS-485 (up to 64 devices per RS-485 multi-drop)

     RS-485 Pros and Cons:

Reduces the connection cost per device

    ● Can be detrimental to the overall system reliability:
one faulty device can bring down all devices in the
        RS-485 network

    ● May result in communications problems in a multi-user
        system, whenever a RS-4
85 device is simultaneously
        polled by several PCs
