HygroLog NT
Networking

The ROTRONIC HW4 software allows the on-line monitoring on a PC of an almost unlimited number of networked data loggers, the programming of the data logging function (for each logger and/or on the PC), the downloading and visualizing of the recorded data, the adjustment of any HygroClip probe connected to the HygroLog NT and the configuration of the HygroLog NT itself. When data has to be centralized into a single third-party application, a special version of HW4 features OPC tags. In principle, these tags can be read by practically any OPC client application (of-the-shelf or custom designed).

Connecting the HygroLog NT to a network allows you to remotely monitor and record data on a PC (using a local network or via Internet). This can be done either with the HW4 software or with your own custom application (see HygroLog NT communications protocol). In the event of a power outage, protection against loss of data can be provided by simultaneously recording data both on the HygroLog NT and on the remote PC. Whenever required, the log files located on the HygroLog NT can be downloaded to the remote PC, using either HW4 or a custom designed application.

Networking and communication with a PC requires a docking station. Several models of docking stations are available with the following interfaces:

  • RS-232 (COM) port

  • USB port

  • Ethernet (TCP/IP) - wired or wireless

When the number of available ports (COM, USB or Ethernet) is limited, up to 64 HygroLog NT can be connected together using a multi-dropped RS-485 network. In principle, an unlimited number of such networks can be used.

Example 1: Docking station with RS232 or USB port

The number of docking stations with RS-232 or USB port that can be directly connected to a PC depends on the number of physical COM ports and USB ports available on the PC.

Example 2: Ethernet docking station (RJ45 connector)

Our Ethernet compatible docking stations allow a substantial number of HygroLog NT to be centrally monitored by a single PC (up to 253 docking stations per LAN / sub-network). Due to current technological limitations, please note that the HygroLog NT should be not be used with the optional internal probe because of the heat generated by this type of docking station. Accurate measurements require a probe separated from the docking station and data logger by a length of cable.
