red_button.gif (982 bytes) Networking

Going fully digital is often the better strategy: compared to wiring the analog output signals to a central location, using the digital output of the HygroFlex 2 or HygroFlex 3 provides the following benefits:

► Better accuracy because no signal conversion is required
► Wiring is easier to implement
► Data transmission over long distances is more reliable
► A large number of transmitters can be put on the same network.

Some examples are presented below:

Example 1: RS-232 / RS-485 local network

Up to 64 HygroFlex transmitters can be connected together in an RS-485 multi-drop network. using a combination of  RS232 / RS-485. The first transmitter is connected to a COM port of the PC ( RS-232). When available, more than one PC COM port may be used. The ROTRONIC HW4 software displays the data as a table of as a graph and provides additional functions such as data logging, alarms, etc.

Example 2: LAN (TCP/IP) and RS-485 network

Up to 63 HygroFlex transmitters and one HygroClip DI-4 network interface can be connected together in an RS-485 multi-drop network. The DI-4 interface is connected to the same LAN as the PC. Depending on the number of free ports available on the LAN, up to 253 DI-4 interfaces may be used. One or several local area networks as well as the Internet can be used to the purpose of centralizing data from remote locations.

The HygroFlex is also available with an optional Ethernet port, making it possible to eliminate the DI interface as illustrated below:
